It says 'puta', and the footnote basically says 'w... (Spanish)'. It's like all those great eighteenth-century texts where big rumbustuous characters say things like 'D--n his eyes, sir, d--n his eyes for the pox-ridden son of a w---e that he is.' I thought it was funny.
