There is no photo to accompany this post, because of the ridicule to which such an artefact would expose me. So, let me start by saying that, thanks to an overexcited cat, we now have no kettle. This allows us to see how people lived in the time before kettles; the answer is, poorly. I spent a not insignificant amount of time yesterday evening ladling boiling water from a saucepan into a teapot in order to be able to fill our hot water bottle. This is not the technological revolution I was promised: tomorrow, the kettle shop.
