Journey (Part Seven)
We went to Arles. Arles has: heraldic lions guarding the head of a bombed bridge;
a quiet virgn and child;
gargoyles;
a church which come dusk is surrounded by enough bats for Dracula fantasies or old-wives' tales (or maybe both);
and, given the time we were out there, politics.
I particularly like the idea of the 'popular and antiliberal left'.
